What was the first step before you got to Auburn? What were you like when you were a junior?
Well, I played a lot of golf. I started when I was seven years old, and started competing in tournaments around the state and around the Southeast, and even all over the country as a junior. My parents put about as much into it as I did. So I started from a young age.
Does it matter, looking back on it, if you're ranked? Like if you're a really good high school player, does it matter to where you are today? You're on the PGA Tour. You went through all these mini tours and so on. We'll get to that. But does it matter?
Yes and no. I think having a good junior career, college career--
Being the next guy.
Yeah, beating people. You got to beat people to gain that confidence, I believe. But there are early bloomers. There are late bloomers. That's what's great about golf, is there's a lot of time. You don't really have to peak at certain times. I peaked a little bit later in my professional career, which I wouldn't have it any other way. I worked pretty hard to get where I am, and it's just all about persistence and overcoming obstacles.
